Spotify Expands Its Partner Program to More Than 35 New Markets

Spotify is significantly widening the geographic footprint of its creator monetization system.

On September 17, the company announced that the Spotify Partner Program will expand to more than 35 additional markets, including Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and others.

Spotify described it as the program’s largest expansion to date.

According to Spotify’s announcement, eligible creators in the new markets will gain access to multiple revenue streams, including Premium video revenue and advertising monetization.

Why this matters for podcast creators

Podcasting has historically had a fragmented monetization problem.

A creator could build a meaningful audience without necessarily having easy access to platform-native revenue tools. That often pushed podcasters toward outside sponsorships, affiliate offers, memberships, or direct sales.

Spotify’s strategy is increasingly centered on making video and monetization part of the same ecosystem.

For creators, that creates another reason to think beyond audio-only distribution.

Video is becoming a monetization layer

Spotify has spent the last several years pushing video podcasts more aggressively.

The Partner Program reinforces that direction because Premium video revenue creates a direct financial incentive for eligible creators to produce video content that performs inside Spotify.

That does not mean every podcast suddenly needs a large multi-camera production.

But it does mean video is becoming part of the economic architecture of podcast platforms rather than only a marketing add-on.

A podcast that records video now has more optionality:

  • Spotify video,
  • YouTube,
  • social clips,
  • brand integrations,
  • short-form promotion,
  • and visual sponsorship deliverables.

Global monetization also changes audience strategy

Creators with international audiences often face a mismatch between where listeners live and where monetization tools are available.

The expansion reduces some of that friction.

For brands and production companies, it also means international podcast creators may become more commercially sophisticated as more markets gain access to platform-native revenue.

The PHQ perspective

The key lesson is not “chase every new monetization feature.”

It is to build a production workflow that gives the show options.

If a podcast records clean audio only, it can distribute widely as audio.

If it captures high-quality video at the same time, it can also participate in video-native discovery, sponsorship, and platform revenue opportunities.

That flexibility matters because platform business models keep changing.

The safest creator strategy is to own strong source content, maintain your audience relationships, and produce media that can travel across platforms.

Spotify’s expansion is good news for creators in the newly supported markets, but the broader message applies everywhere: podcast monetization is becoming more video-aware, more global, and more integrated with platform ecosystems.
